First and foremost – it is ok to workout during pregnancy. That’s not just our opinion (based on our exercise program during our own pregnancy and the hundreds of pregnant women we’ve trained). It is supported by the prestigous Mayo Clinic, along wtih ACOG, WebMD and most any reputable medical organization (click the logos below to learn more, and/or do a google/bing search for “is it ok to exercise during pregnancy). We also consult with and get input from a number of OBGYNs on a regular basis. You can actually do a lot more than you ever imagined during your pregnancy. Of course, there are precautions you must take, as well.
This is why Hot Mamas is the perfect place for your prenatal exercise. We not only are moms and highly experienced at prenatal exercise programs, we are also trained to make sure you do your exercises properly and avoid movements that are unsafe. Our teachers our trained to help our prenatal students modify exercises whenever necessary.
So if you’re pregnant, exercise! As you’ve read in the articles linked above (you did read them, didn’t you?) exercising during pregnancy has a ton of benefits including reducing stress, reducing many of the discomforts common during pregnancy (back, …) and helping you prepare for giving birth. We can’t tell you how often our Hot Mamas, having worked out with us prior to their second child, have told us how much easier things went. Plus, you can get a head start on getting back in shape (with our postnatal exercise program) after you have your baby.
The first step is to talk with your doctor. Once you’ve done that, you can schedule personal training and/or take group classes.
Personal training is the best way to workout during your pregnancy as your Hot Mama trainer can not only work closely with you on your exercise, but can also provide tons of input/feedback about your pregnancy (since all Hot Mama trainers are moms, too). She will also discuss nutrition, both during your pregnancy and how to plan for once you have your baby.
Group exercise – Here are a few of our classes that are great for you during your pregnancy. Many of our other classes are also safe during your pregnancy with modifications from our instructors (all of our instructors are trained to watch you during your workout and provide modifications as needed). Feel free to contact us to learn more.
Prenatal Conditioning: Childbirth is what our bodies were created for. Having a baby is a physical event that needs preparation just like any other athletic endeavor. You wouldn’t show up to a marathon without training for it, right? Pregnancy brings many challenges: fatigue, moodiness, unexplained aches and pains, and nausea, among others. The Hot Mamas Prenatal Conditioning class addresses all of these challenges and more. It will give you the mental stamina and focus necessary for labor and delivery. Our class will work your entire body with an emphasis on your core strength and the muscles used during this big event. Now here’s the best part: after delivery, your body will be on it’s way to getting back into
shape more quickly and you will feel strong and ready for motherhood! This class follows the most current ACOG guidelines, is OB/GYN approved and created for all fitness levels and trimesters.
The Hot Mamas Method: Do you want a rock solid core? A tush from which you can bounce a quarter? Longer, leaner, lithe muscles? Better posture? A better sex life? Done in Hot Mamas style, this pilates class will change your body. Like all of our classes, The Hot Mamas Method is designed with a woman’s body in mind, so one of the key principals are movements that help to elongate your body, making you look longer and leaner. This class is perfectly safe for our pregnant Hot Mamas.
Ballet Sculpt: You’ve heard Kelly Ripa and other celebrities rave about it, and studios are popping up all over town copying the workout created by Lotte Berk in NYC. Our Ballet Sculpt class, also inspired by the Lotte Berk Method and Physique 57 in NYC, is an exciting ballet barre fitness program that builds lean, supple muscles through a blend of ballet, Pilates and interval-style strength training. This isn’t a ballet class, but will work quickly and efficiently to help you attain the lithe, gorgeous physique of a dancer. This class is great for pregnancy, and after baby, will really help you get your body back!
Hip Hop: We crank up the music and move. Just like the top clubs in town (without the drinks). Our Hip Hop classes are led by dancers that know how to move and know the latest moves. You’ll get your heart pounding and work up a sweat. We’ll show you how to dial it down to the level that’s right for your conditioning and stage of pregnancy, but there’s no reason you can’t do some cardio. If you’re looking to burn some calories and have a great time (and learn a few moves) this is the class for you.
